What is a life list?
It’s a bit like a bucket list – a list of things you’d like to do in your life. Rather than having a focus on ‘before you die’, however, the purpose of making a life list is much more about living an intentional life. This means doing the things that you want to do, and focusing on those as goals, rather than drifting through existence and constantly feeling like you haven’t achieved enough, enjoyed enough or been enough.
A lot of my Life List thoughts – including the very clear description above – have come from the lovely Sarah, who has been making and maintaining her life list for ages. At Trade School Cardiff 2012, Sarah ran a session about Life Lists, and took us all through the reasons for making one and how to set about adding things to your list.
I’ve had one living in a list-making app for the last 12 months or so. I’ve even managed to tick off ‘visit New York City’ and we’ve booked the Paris trip where I’m hoping to complete ‘kiss at the top of the Eiffel Tower’. Thanks to a bit of persuasion, I’ve now put the list online. It’s not particularly long yet but I’ll keep adding to it, and trying to write some blog posts as I complete items from the list.
